Would rather, would sooner的用法

Would rather

我们用would rather或’d rather来表示更喜欢某物。Would rather有两种不同的结构。(例句中的主语都加了下划线。)

在不同主语的否定句中，否定句出现在后面的从句中，而不是 would rather:

She’d rather you didn’t phone after 10 o’clock.

Not: She wouldn’t rather you phoned after 10 o’clock.

同一个主语

当两个句子中的主语是同一个人时，我们用would rather (not)跟动词的基本形式:

We’d rather go on Monday.

Not: We’d rather to go … or We’d rather going …

More than half the people questioned would rather have a shorter summer break and more holidays at other times.

I’d rather not fly. I hate planes.

当我们想指的是过去时，我们用would rather + have + -ed形式(不带to的完成不定式):

She would rather have spent the money on a holiday. (The money wasn’t spent on a holiday.)

I’d rather have seen it at the cinema than on DVD. (I saw the film on DVD.)

不同的主语

当两个从句的主语不同时，我们经常用一般过去时来谈论现在或将来，用过去完成时来谈论过去:

I would rather they did something about it instead of just talking about it. (一般过去时用来谈论现在或将来)

Would you rather I wasn’t honest with you? (一般过去时用来谈论现在或将来)

Not: Would you rather I’m not honest with you? or … I won’t be honest with you?

I’d rather you hadn’t rung me at work. (过去完成时用来谈论过去)

Much rather

我们可以使用much和would rather来增强偏好。说话时，我们强调:

I’d much rather make a phone call than send an email.

She’d much rather they didn’t know about what had happened.

简短的回答: I’d rather not

我们经常用I 'd rather not作为对建议或请求说“不”的简短回答:

I’d rather not, if you don’t mind.

Would sooner, would just as soon

当我们说我们更喜欢一件事而不是另一件事时，我们会使用短语would sooner和would just as soon。它们的意思与would rather大致相同:

Would sooner is more common than would just as soon. However, would rather is more common than both of these phrases.

I don’t need a lift, thanks. I’d rather walk.

• When we use not referring to a different subject, we attach not to the second clause, not to would rather or would sooner:
