是看见大象吗？字母看貌似确实有“看见大象”的意思，但是其含义却是表示：大开眼界，见世面。
早在19世纪早期，嘉年华在美国各地巡回进行节目演出，到达每到一个地方，当然都会带来新奇的事物，用来吸引当地人注意，其中最吸引人的是大象了。因为只有在非洲和亚洲才能看到大象，当时欧美国家的人基本没见过大象,对当时欧美人来说能看见大象就真的是相当于是见过世面的了，算是开了眼界的，所以在美国的当地人眼里最为新奇的事物之一就是大象。因此，大象的表演也成为了当地最经典的演出。后来人们就把 see the elephant 变成了惯用语，意思是“大开眼界，见过世面”，就好像在看见了大象后，世界上什么世面都是看过的了。
