关系副词where、why、when一直困扰着英语学习者。关系副词在任何高中试题和成人高考中占有一定的比例。具体在语法选择题，完形填空题，语法填空中。文章最后有很重要的题，用适当的关系词填空，共有6题。只能填一个单词。有答案和解释。学生一般只做对两个，其它全错。
定语从句的关系副词只能做状语。它们相当于介词＋关系代词，因此，要想搞清楚关系副词的用法，必须记住几个介词短语。
一，需要介词吗？要哪个？
1.We live _____the house.
2.He can't come______ the reason.
3.I went to school____ the day.
4.I spent ____two days working on the farm.
5.We visited _______the farm

1. in 我们住在这个房子里。
2. for 因为这个原因，他不能来。
3. on 那天我去上学了。
4. 不要介词，因为spend是及物动词，two days就是它的宾语。
5. 不要介词，因为visit是及物动词，the farm就是它的宾语。
二，关系副词where when why 的构成
认识了上面的介词短语，现在我们把介词用在这些句子中。可以把介词提前，放在关系代词的前面，这时关系代词只能用which
1. The house in which we live is very big. 我们住的房子很大。
Which指代house, in which地点状语，才可以用where代替。
The house where we live is very big.
2. This is the reason for which he couldn't come.这就是他来不成的原因。
Which 指代reason, for which 原因状语，才可以用why代替。
This is the reason why he couldn't come.
3. I remember the day on which I went to school.我记得我去上学的原因。
Which 指代day, on which 时间状语，才可以用when代替。
I remember the day when I went to school.
所以，关系副词where、why、when必须保证做状语，相当于介词＋which

6. where 做地点状语。相当于on which。
